Haferl shoes lace at the side rather than the front, which is what lets the tongue sit flat and the vamp stay clean under a lederhosen hem. Ours are Goodyear welted, so the sole can be replaced twice over rather than the shoe being thrown away when it wears through. That is the difference between Trachten footwear and a festival costume shoe.

• Dark oak nubuck upper on a leather welted sole
• Traditional side lacing with brass eyelets
• Full leather lining and a cork footbed that moulds to the foot
• Rubber heel insert for grip on wet cobbles
• EU 39 to 48, including half sizes

Use shoe trees between wears. The welted construction means a cobbler can resole them, so treat them as a ten year purchase.
